« The scythe brings diligence, the mower haste. »

Mowing with a scythe certainly takes more endurance, time, and strength than mowing with modern equipment. But scythe mowing is different precisely for that reason: the journey is what matters, not just the result. How the meadow is mown makes a big difference—for the meadow, for the insects, and for the person swinging the scythe.

The Scythe Association

Since 2004, the Sensenverein Österreich has been working on collecting and passing on knowledge about scythes, techniques, and related tools. The Scythe Association trains scythe instructors, organizes joint mowing gatherings, and develops products such as the 'Fir Tree' scythe throw (Sensenwurf 'Tannenbaum') and various scythe blades.
