The strongly curved shape of the 40 cm clearing scythe makes mowing in confined spaces easier. The scythe resembles a post horn, hence the name. It is particularly stable, allowing thin trees and bushes to be mown with it. A draw-knife can optionally be mounted on the sneath (snath), allowing heavier woody growth to be cut down. Its primary use is in clearing and mowing young trees in forest cultures, hence its secondary name: forest scythe with billhook. The scythe blade is triple-peened.
The draw-knife serves as an addition for meadow, weed, and clearing scythes as well as the "Posthorn" clearing scythe to be able to cut heavier woody growth as well.
Assembly instructions:
The draw-knife is mounted between the sneath and the scythe (see picture).
Important: Only select this service for scythes with a length of 35cm to 75cm!
Essentially, all scythes we sell are pre-peened by machine multiple times and coated with anti-rust lacquer. With this optional service, the scythe becomes even sharper and is particularly well-suited for young and green grass.
We perform the following work steps:
The anti-rust lacquer is removed from the cutting edge area by grinding.
The cutting edge is professionally and uniformly thin-peened by hand.
Even if new scythe blades are labeled "ready to mow" (whether ours or from other brands), they only truly become ready after the anti-rust lacquer has been removed.
Coarse abrasive rubber
20 x 50 x 80 mm
Ideal tool for removing varnish from the cutting edge before first use. The rubber-bonded abrasive grains also clean the cutting edge perfectly before subsequent peening. Due to the matte metal surface left after sanding, hammer strikes during peening are clearly visible.
This scythe model was found in the depths of an old scythe warehouse. Outstanding is the specially shaped back. The scythe is very sturdy, making it suitable for tall, thick grass and also for cutting grain. The association has had this special scythe model manufactured again.
Heavy-duty scythe model with a flat tip for clearing forest cultures, bushes, and paths. The scythe is extremely sturdy and particularly designed for mowing tasks involving tall, hard grass, small bushes, and young trees up to a maximum diameter of 0.5 cm. The scythe blade is triple-peened.
An adjustment and assembly manual is included in the scope of delivery.

This hard steel scythe (Mayer model) is a pure competition scythe. The scythe edge is 3-fold peened. The 90 cm scythe fits the curved wooden sneath from our range, while the 130 cm scythe requires a special sneath.

The hard steel scythe is an all-around scythe and represents a lightweight alternative to the red meadow, weed, and culture scythe. The advantage of this scythe is that it stays sharp longer due to the hard steel. A disadvantage is that it is harder to peen. However, this can be avoided by carefully (!) grinding the scythe with a flap disc.
This scythe blade is very thick and harder than usual scythe blades. This scythe is not peened, but ground using a motor-driven waterstone. The Styria synthetic whetstone is suitable for resharpening. Sharpening with an angle grinder usually causes the steel of the scythe to become soft due to heat generation. An adjustment and assembly manual is included in the scope of delivery.
Sturdy model with a beard width of approx. 90 mm for tall, dense grass. The heavier the use, the shorter the scythe chosen. This scythe shape was traditionally used on farms in Germany. It is still used there today. It is available in three different lengths. An adjustment and assembly manual is included in the scope of delivery.
According to the specifications and quality criteria of the Austrian Scythe Association (Sensenverein Österreich), our most popular model is exclusively handcrafted by the Schröckenfux company in over 20 production steps. The special curvature of the blade, the 'Knackl' (the unique tang elevation), and its exceptional sharpness define our best-selling classic.
The SVÖ scythe is a grass scythe designed for fresh to old and dry grass, as well as green plant stems up to 5 mm in diameter and non-woody vegetation. The cutting edge is peened three times and then sharpened by hand. The scythe blade is polished on both sides. Its particularly light weight, achieved by the 'Spitzhamme' (tapered spine reinforcement), allows for effortless and energy-saving mowing.
Shorter scythes are ideal for older, taller, and particularly dry grass. A short scythe blade also facilitates mowing in tight spaces, around trees, or along walls. The 60 cm and 65 cm scythes are suitable for areas up to 80 m². For open-area mowing, scythes from 70 cm to 90 cm are optimal. The 90 cm scythe is designed for large, flat areas with light growth; mastering the correct technique and being in good physical condition are essential for handling this scythe.
Before use, the protective varnish must be removed by manual sanding. Detailed instructions on how to correctly adjust the scythe can be found in the enclosed adjustment and assembly guide.
Additional Service: For a blade that is ready for immediate use, the Varnish Removal and Hand-Peening Service can be ordered additionally.

A whetstone holder should always be kept close at hand when scythe mowing. It is simply worn on the belt or waistband and filled with a little water. This whetstone holder is made of plastic and comes with a metal belt hook. Thanks to its yellow color, it is easy to find at any time.
With this scythe peening jig, you can work on the primary bevel (the 'dengel'), which is the approximately 5 mm wide area directly along the scythe's cutting edge. During the peening process, a geometrically flat cutting wedge is created through cold forming, which increases both the hardness and toughness of the edge. This ensures an ideal mowing result. The scope of delivery includes the anvil with a guide pin and anvil spike, as well as the silver peening cap for rough-peening and the gold peening cap for final sharpening of the cutting edge.
